Lessons for other Governors as Zulum Swears in 27 Local Government Chairmen
By Yakubu Ahmed-BK
With the swearing in of elected local government Chairmen in Borno state, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has set some seemingly unattainable records in the process.
Number one record is the transparent and hitchfree election conducted by the local election commission which went on and was concluded without an iota of complaints by opposition parties.
Record number two is that out of the twenty seven elected Chairmen, two were Professors which gives an inkling that Professor Zulum has began the process of creating as many Zulums as possible in the politics of Borno state. Observers see this as upping the ante and raising the bar of governance and service delivery. Mediocrity is on its way out of Borno politics.
Number three is that soon after swearing in the Chairmen, the Governor gave orders that all monies accruing to the local councils should be given to them promptly so as to take governance down to the grassroots.
The bar has indeed been raised in Borno state as the Professor continues to churn out changes that are helpful to the growth of democracy in the country.
