Zulum Pays N700m Leave, Transport Grant
By Yakubu Ahmed-BK
Workers in Borno state have started receiving alerts for the payment of their leave and transport grant which was promised by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Borno state Comrade Bulama Abiso confirmed to this reporter in a telephone interview today that alerts are being received by workers already.
He remarked that a total of N700 million has already been paid into the accounts of benefiting workers.
While expressing the gratitude of Borno workers to the Governor for his pro-workers policy since coming to power, Comrade Abiso charged civil servants to reciprocate this gesture by rededicating themselves to their duties.
The Borno state Governor has, since assumption of office demonstrated a commitment to the welfare of workers and had said at various fora that his ambition was to ensure that every penny due to civil servants are paid to them in order to cushion the effect of the economic ruin and hardship brought about by the more than a decade old insurgency in the state.
Only last month, the Governor had paid a total of N12 billion in gratuities to nearly 5000 deserving beneficiaries. This magnanimity has been adjudged as about the best pro-workers welfare decision that has lubricated the economy of the state and had positive liquidity impact in the state.
