Guwori Foundation: Helping The Less Privilege Realising Their Dreams

By Taofeek LAWAL

To be one's brother's keeper is a scriptural message which has outlined many generations and will surely outlive the present generations too.

Simply put, being one's brother's keeper is to lend helping hands to those who are indigent and are lacking the basic necessities of life or render assistance to the people who are in dire need.

And this is exactly what Guwoni Foundation, a non governmental organization is doing across Nigeria in general and Borno State in particular. The Kyari brothers, Umaru and Abdullahi, who understand the peculiar nature of Borno State ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency came up with the idea of the foundation to empower those who have been rendered redundant by the activities of the insurgents and to train women and youths in vocational skills as part of efforts to make them useful for themselves, their immediate families as well as provide educational needs for the less privileged.

Thus with  support and cooperation of the Borno State chapter of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Guwori Foundation as at the last count, has provided more than soft landing for more than 250 Borno women and youths who through the foundation's Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS) can now stand on their own. "The ultimate aim is to make people self reliant through vocational training and provide them some assistance in that regard.

The (education) centre has more than 300 pupils studying at the regular section and more than 400 learners at the Tahfeez and women sections.

The foundation has also acquired and built more classrooms to accommodate more pupils in the new academic year," Abdullahi Kyari, a legal practitioner and the secretary of the foundation told newsmen during a recent press conference in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

Those who have benefited from the foundation's kind gesture could not hide their joy and called on other well-meaning and good-spirited Nigerians to emulate the Guwori Foundation to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged, the homeless and deprived Nigerians who find themselves in their present predicament owing to no fault of theirs.

The beneficiaries added that what they have gained from the foundation will go a long way to allow them start a new life and  help their families and dependants. Guwori Foundation has provided succour for less privileged Nigerians in tailoring skills, educational support and livestock production (breeding, fattening, fishery and poultry) and coming at a time when the Coronavirus pandemic has forced a lot of people out of business.

The Kyari brothers have assured that they will not relent in  their efforts to bring more people out of poverty but will also continue to partner with those who share in the mission and vision of Guwori Foundation which is to help those in need.
