WOMEN IN OIL AND GAS HAILS SYLVA’S GAS INITIATIVES ...awards him Grand Ambassador.
Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, H.E Timipre Sylva, on Tuesday played host to the Women In Energy, Oil And Gas, WEOG, at the NNPC towers, Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the nation's foremost women group in the Oil and Gas sector, Oladumi Owo President of WEOG hailed the Minister’s visible gas initiatives.
'Your Excellency, you declared last year the year of gas. We are happy you have extended it to the Decade of Gas. We are so excited about the projects your administration is embarking on. We like the sustainability and the viability of your plans. We thank you and we appreciate you and we hope to be part of it. We want to demand that you make women active participants in your highly commendable gas drive'
Also speaking, Brenda Ataga, the Minister’s aide on Gas Business Development and Investment said 'We are commencing our intervention for small and medium scale businesses. We are creating micro-distribution centres for LPG in different communities so that women can lead the campaign for gas as a substitute energy for cooking'
In his reaction, Sylva thanked the group for calling and expressed confidence women will pioneer, effectively, the nation's next course towards a Gas powered Nigeria.
'I am very happy that you have expressed interest to work with us. There is a lot we can do together. There will be a common ground for us to work together and I'm sure this sector will benefit hugely from the many positives and innovation women can bring'
Also in attendance was Barr. Mrs Oyanbo Owei, member of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board.
Oyanbo affirmed the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, through the NCDMB had earmarked a $20 million intervention fund for women in building local capacities in the oil and gas sector.
Last year, Oyanbo was appointed into the NCDMB board as its first ever female member.
